Chris O,
Please consider the strife and corruption you read in the Bible as allegorical for its time. We are in a different time now. What lessons can we learn from the allegory?
Do you have a goal of finding freedom in your life "in-the-now"? Can you measure any evidence of dysfuntion in your life? Can you live without feeling obligated to others? Can you survive without expectations; expectations that others are obligated to you? I think you can, and do.
As adults, we may feel obligations and expectations. However, are they as powerful and freeing as replacing obligations, which are one-way from us, with responsibility, which is two-way? Are they as powerful and freeing as replacing expectations, which are one-way toward us, with plans, goals, and personal contracts, which are all two-way?
Let me know what you think, and feel... please.
