It's impossible for me to believe that being religious requires us to be intolerant or bigoted.
Personally, I don't believe in a personal, all powerful God. I do believe that God is the spirit of goodness in all things and that God is the spirit of love. I think that God is a magnificent spiritual design of which we are a part unless we don't adhere to good ethical/moral values, such as treating others the way we would like to be treated, and even if we veer from the moral path, there is redemption.
I rely on my own experience of God rather than a particular scripture, although I am receptive to learning from all religious doctrines.
Have you ever read Milton? His analysis of the bible is skeptical and brave.
