In reply to Why am I so obsessed with a label?, posted by Dinah on May 30, 2003, at 8:51:34
Because labels make things 'known' and understandable? I dunno.
I'm still searching for some other dx than the one I've been given but then again it has changed over the years, and like you I'm wary of the DSM-IV or DSM-V whichever they're up to now. I take the tests and read more than any psych student about my disease and treatment options since I've been battling this monster since my early teens when it first reared its ugly head. So I completely understand that need to search and seek to find something to explain why we are the way we are.
I think DDNOS might be frustrating with that not otherwise specified part but at least it is a start to work with.
I'm too tired from lack of sleep to really tie this into the above thread about DID and some of the important points raised by all involved in that thread about coexistence or integration.
Labeled or not Dinah you are an intelligent woman who fights the good fight. Keep at it and when you find a label that feels right slap it on and keep it. ; ) (hopefully you'll see that as a kind joke nothing malicious there just fondness and trying to be a bit silly about the label thing)
Best wishes,
