Inpatient one place, outpatient another? What?

Posted by Poet on May 15, 2004, at 2:02:57

With my permission, my therapist called the facility that my insurance covers for psych care. They are only authorized for full and partial(day program) hospitalization. No out patient. So follow up meds visits/therapy (my T has no hospital privileges) are with another mental health care provider!

They can't even recommend someone, I have to go through my ex employer's EAP(employee assistance plan- ha!!) My T called them and got a message that they were closed. I got brave and called and left a message to call me ASAP, but nobody called back. I worked for a health care facility. With a psych dept that is headed by someone who edits a national journal. The idiots should get that mental health care is as important as physical, but they don't. My therapist isn't covered because she doesn't have PhD or MD after her name, which I don't agree with, but accept, as I know the the structure of the medical academic world. I know I can't see anyone on staff due to HIPPA, too, but that is no excuse for not having the damn EPA line staffed! During normal business hours!!!

More on Monday. This has taken me two hours. I know you don't know her, but my T is too good for the likes of me. She is calling my family med doc on Monday, to get me in ASAP if EAP doesn't call back. She will go with me to any doc I see, to tell them the things that I can't. She isn't charging for phone sessions. She tells me it's because she cares about me. Maybe when my brain gets unscrambled, I'll understand why.
