Hi Michael,
I'm also really glad that you're feeling better. That sounded like a wrenching experience. I hope that you don't have to live through that again.
I also second what Maddy said. Therapy isn't really designed to be most effective when you are acutely experiencing your most difficult symptoms. It's not like going to the doctor for a physical illness, where they need to see your symptoms to make a diagnosis and prescribe some medication that will start healing you that day. Mental health seems to have a longer time line. And it seems to be a lot easier to talk about the difficult times at times of relative stability. That has definitely been my experience.
And also, I wanted to add that I've experienced some episodes that sound quite a bit like what you experienced, although the object of worry was entirely different. After a number of those episodes, with different objects of worry, I started to realize that the anxiety was separate from the actual thing I was obsessing about. So, although the objects of my anxiety were always valid, the way they took me over was something I could change. I've found a lot of relief through both therapy and medication.
I wish you a lot of luck.
