If I understand you correctly, you are saying that your choice in self-medication (alcohol) is an indicator of what drugs might be helpful for you. Logical, but be careful not to just substitute one addiction for another. You could try the herb Kava. It's effects are very similar to alcohol, but slightly more mellowing. Be careful with it, though. For me, 2 strong Kava drinks = six beers. When I say Kava, I mean the good stuff from hawaii (like http://www.konakavafarm.com). Kava is absolutely disgusting, and you may want to encapsulate the powder and swallow pills instead. I don't know if that would change the potency of its effects or not as I've only prepared it the traditional way. Anyway, Kava is what came to mind when thinking of something similar to alcohol.
