Volunteer in an field associated with what you are studying. It makes great resume material and it good for your soul.

Or volunteer doing something that just makes you feel good. (That can also go on your resume)
Maybe with kids, elderly, homeless, battered women, disabled, all sorts of agencies need help. And if working directly with people is not your bag, you could do office work for any agency, or deliveries for some, lots of things need doing.

Volunteering helps other and helps you too.
