I'd like to share a little of the small amount of insight I have gained regarding my use of ecstacy and marijuana. I smoked marijuana on and off all my life; sometimes chronically, sometimes not at all due to things like being in the military. ;-) I used ecstacy for about 7 years very regularly. Sometimes I know it was clean MDMA, sometimes not. After a while, it no longer worked for me. All drugs affect your brain my therapist recently told me, when not used clinically, and when gotten off the street, the side effects are worse, of course. There is alot of talk in the media recently regarding the government using MDMA to ease the symptoms of trauma on survivors of horrific incidents such 9/11. It effects the levels of serotonin in your brain also. I honestly feel I would not be alive now if it wasn't for my ecstacy self medication, and am going to discuss it even further with my doctors as my treatment for a recent diagnosis of PTSD. Although, I am on week 3 of effexor xr and am hoping I can refrain from smoking pot. The research I have found makes me believe continuing to smoke pot will certainly not help me heal in the long run. As well as the fact that my substance abuse was a symptom of a deeper condition. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. =)
