In reply to America's REAL drug problems..........., posted by WhyandHow on November 29, 2006, at 1:18:02
While your article focused on so-called addicting drugs, you didn't mention other drugs. Personally I have experienced much more difficulty withdrawing from zyprexa than any benzo. Paxil was no picnic either. All of the drugs involve dependence.
I had a thread about a month where a lot of benzo users responded and I was unexpectedly surprised to see how many people have been on stable doses of them for a very long time with no tolerance buildup and continued control of symptoms.
I believe, and it is just opinion, that everything in your article falls under a popular theme at pbabble...that is, "your mileage may vary". And it does quite a lot. Your article only spoke of the abusers or the cases that went wrong, but no mention of the thousands or millions of people that do not fall into that category who have had many years of success with one drug or another, even the ones you mentioned.
I think where the worst problems kick in is when people use drugs, any drugs, irresponsibly. Sometimes even following your doctor's orders is actually the unresponsible thing to do. As in my case, taking zyprexa for 10 years as a sleep aid and booster for prozac was an irresponsible thing for my doctors to do.
Anyway, in my opinion, America's real drug problem is they haven't figured out how to get great gas mileage for everyone.
