you mentioned people were prescribed "vicodin, and a more commonly prescribed hydrocodone"
I just wanted to say that those two are the same thing....hydrocodone is the active ingredient in vicodin (including APAP{acetaminophin}).
that could stand to be corrected...just a little friendly criticism.
also, i think the mention of opiates needs to come up more than it does...pain killers, namely oxycontin and hydrocodone, have become a MAJORLY abused prescription, even moreso than amphetamines. It may depend upon where you live though...
but otherwise, AWESOME PAPER!! I love how towards the end you put that drug's legality is based on who is making the money and its not about health, but about wealth.
I'm am positive that if, back in the early 1900's, a multiple competetive companies started producing marijuana cigarettes, you know, saying "mine is more potent than yours" or something like that, Marijuana would probably still be legal to this day.
There used to be this tincture called Laudanum, containing liquid forms of opiates mixed with minimal amounts of alcohol, with intentions to cure alcoholism. It worked rather well, but the reason opium was outlawed in this country is because it came from china, and since many people from china came to america, the president and many american people did everything they could to make lives miserable for the chinese. Which largely included outlawing opium, as most immigrants from China were addicted to opium.
Crazy eh? But yea, good job on the pape.
