I have been living with depressive illness for the last 18 months or so. I have been taking the trycylic known as dothiepin/prothiedin for the past year after the initial failure of prozac.
Despite the best efforts of medication, cognitive therapy and, not least, myself I am still engaged in a continuing daily struggle. I am due to start with 0.5mg of flupenthixol in the near future. Does anybody have any advice or experiences that they could share with me? I'd be grateful hearing form anyone. Regards to all out there in depression-world!

Hi, Tarn:
Well, I have no experience with flupenthixol, but I empathize with the daily struggle you describe. I recently got back on meds for my depression. I tried Zoloft a few years ago and had really strong side effects. When Celexa popped on the market, a doctor friend of mine suggested I might try it. I have only been on it about a month now, and I am finally feeling a response from it.
I have been clinically depressed for about 5 years now (this episode, anyway). Some days it is a genuine struggle. I haven't felt totally overwhelmed more than once or twice since starting the Celexa. The periods of despondency haven't lasted as long nor run so deep, either. We'll see.
You know, I really wasn't going to post this because I feel that I have no real information to give you -- I have not had experience with TCAs other than amytriptyline, and I didn't take it for very long. But I didn't want you to think you were alone out there.
:-) Shelley

I took tricyclics for years,amitrip...I'm not a doc but wonder why your doc isn't going with the newer meds like Wellbutrin or Effexor first. Prozac isn't the only SSRI to try. Paxil, Zoloft,
whatever! Some of the side effects I had with tricyclics were not fun! You shouldn't have to suffer. Personally I would find another doc.
