Hi
Meds poop out on me all the time. I had a really good response to Parnate at 100 mg. It was the best antidepressant for me. But it stopped working.
A year latter I tried it again, hoping it would work again. But I couldn't get past 10 mg because the side effects were so bad. How can that be? I was taking 10 times that amount and never had any side effects.
Prozac. Other than Parnate, I did have a good response to Prozac but it pooped out on me. I tried it again 2 years ago and it made me suicidal. Why? It didn't do that the first time.
It doesn't make sense.

> MaximeI suspect your eating disorder is giving you multiple nutrient deficiencies of various kinds, which are causing robust TRD. Vitamins, minerals & other supplements simply wont work if you're not getting enough protien, quality carbs & the correct fats all in decent enough proportions.
When you took these meds before, maybe your deficiencies weren't as bad as they are now, hence why they haven't worked at all second time around.

Good question. Answers are theories only and make for good discussion.
Theories:
Receptor numbers, density, and sensitivies were altered by the previous drugs in a longlasting or permanent manner.Genes and DNA codes were turned on or shut off by the previous drugs in a longlasting or permanent manner.
Adrenal gland function has changed over time.
Thyroid function has changed over time.
The liver's ability to detox has changed over time. Phase 1 or phase 2 have speeded up or slowed down and are out of sync.
Hidden subtle gut problems like candida or leaky gut have alterered your immune response, causing exaggerated reactions to formerly tame substances.
Heavy metal burden. Lead, mercury, copper, arnenic, antimony. They are everywhere, from fire retardants in fabrics to grains we eat to water supplies to air we breath to flu shots and vaccinations to fish to presticides on the produce at your store and in the meats of animals that ate acid rain pesticide plants and of course amalgam fillings. Even low normal levels of metals can cause serious sensitivities and adverse drug reactions in many people.
Rather than an and/or view at any of the above theories, I think it is more realistic to assume it is a mix of several of them simultaneously. What could cause ALL of the above all by itself? Heavy metal burden.
But to keep it simple, you and I are among hundreds who have asked the same question why a drug once worked but doesn't now, and why no side effects previously but now serious. Something obviously changed, and it wasn't the drug. Kind of scary things can be altered in our biochemistries so dramatically isn't it?

bluebarry that was exellant. I learn alot from what you wrote. Wow didnt know your thyroid could change the drug....wow.
Prozac has me going ok, it makes life at least livable, but its not the complete fix, i do like it, not like it as a drug, but the fact that it increases sometimes my "view point" of life. Usally if im not taking it life seems very dullish, but then at the same time Prozac makes me feel dull sometimes! how is that HA!
My doctor did put me on prozac, because i was going on Synmbax (Prozac 25mg/Zyprexa 6mg) and it just didnt work, so he wrote 2 prescritions. Prozac 20mg, Zyprexa. He knows im bi-poler but he still chose prozac with zyprexa at 5mg. Im glad im not on Lexapro because alot of my friends say it doesnt work, and that one of the most "common" prescribed medications right now in the united states, as antidepressant.
Anyways, Prozac is somewhat stimulating and thats good because i dont want a sedating antidepressant because my body would fight against it. By the the worst ever sedative i ever took was Trazadone. Well i didnt know how it was working i just rerember i felt retarted very.
But thats it. Maxi, Temazpeam has lost some effect on me over time.

Maxie I agree as the same thing happened to me with the benzos now only lower doses used to take so many. And then once at high doses years ago luvox worked for a few weeks pooped out and never could go up again. I think the chemicals get used to not having to make that chemical and then either poop out or you need higher doses. But that doesn't explain needing lower doses does it? Phillipa

I've noticed some funny things happen with meds when you stop taking them, try something else, and go back to the previous med. Often when I do that I'm still haveing problems from the med that I stoped taking. And the good med takes longer to start working properly again.
Like zyprexa, I suddenly switched to abilify, felt awfull on abilify, switched back to zyprexa, and it took 6 months before the zyprexa was working the same again. For the first 6 months I had to take like 2-3 times as much zyprexa and the effect was minimal to what it had been.
This is the end of the thread.
