What is the track record of Pristiq on this user board? Has it been significantly better than currently existing therapies (Ie Effexor or Cymbalta)? I've seen some people report that it takes a full 8 weeks to kick in (unlike just a few with Effexor or Cymbalta).

The big hype.
I might go back of effexor.

Bearfan, are you dealing with pain? Just spoke to someone who said s cymbalta at higher doses made her pain greatly diminish and her depression, too.
I've never tried it. Best to you.

This isn't a direct answer to your question, but more of a comment on the way psych drugs are marketed. The waiting room of the clinic where I see my pdoc is full of advertising for Pristiq, including the package insert listing effects and side effects. In terms of its action and side effects it is almost exactly like Cymbalta, which is what I take. Pristiq certainly has a bigger advertising budget than Cymbalta. Both are SNRIs, but are chemically quite different, I think. Anyway, I'm happy with Cymbalta, which has been working for me, especially with low-dose Ritalin.

My understanding is that Pristiq is just a synthetic version of what the body produces when it processes Effexor. You wouldn't expect much difference in the results for someone who has a normally functioning digestive system.

I thought pristiq was just sort of a patent extender for effexor? I did take 60mg of cymbalta for three months once nothing for depression if even have it which doubt. But it did mask back pain. Phillipa

Sorry to side track, what do you consider 'low-dose' ritalin?

Chujoe,
May I ask if pain is an issue you're treating w/ cymbalta?

No, not specifically, but I have notice3d that the arthritis in my neck is a little less painful than before I began taking Cymbalta. I'm not sure why my pdoc chose this particular SNRI for my depression / anxiety. Maybe she'd had good luck with it in the past. I know that package insert says it is specifically indicated for some kinds of pain -- peripheral nerve pain.

Hey, thought I answered this yesterday. Sorry. I take 5mg of Ritalin three times a day.
