Seroquel calms me at all levels, or makes me sort of space out, which is good. What is Taurine? Can you take it with meds? What are your experiences on it?

Taurine is a natural amino acid that is found in protein, but our bodies create most of it. It is inhibitory and slows down excess brain activity especially related to overactive glutamate or aspartate, both of which could be giving you anxiety and fear problems. It is an essential nutrient to get sodium, magnesium, calcium, and sulfur in and out of cells the way they are supposed to. Many people with psychiatric problems have bodies that just do not produce enough taurine. That's where supplementation can help.
People who prefer natural treatments to medicines find that taurine is an good mood stabilizer instead of lithium, depakote, or lamictal. From my own sample trials at low doses, it is indeed very calming and mellowing. It also seems to somehow make everything else work a little better. People have even been able to wean off of longterm xanax or klonopin with the aid of taurine and gaba supplements. Or for someone who wants to reduce dosage, taurine can help there.
Yes you can take it with meds. It stands a good chance of making the meds work better, or addressing issues that the meds are missing.
Another one to consider is magnesium. Favored ones are magnesium glycinate, magnesium taurate, or magnesium citrate. Magnesium is an essential mineral for brain function. Stress can deplete it quickly. Magnesium is very calming.
Taurine and magnesium are both natural, cheap, and basically just concentrated forms of food. And both are calming, so that could be help you through some tough times. Drug stores and health food stores have them.

So, can you (should you) take Taurine AND magnesium at the same time? I have a homepathic of Mag (Mag Phosphate) and find it very calming, and I'd like to try the taurine (health food store?)also. What do you think? Also, I called my Dr. and he said Mag Phos is a no no because it messes with electrolytes. Do you think he knows what he is talking about?
Thanks

I'm actually planning on taking Taurine and Magnesium together soon. I have 400grams of Taurine, and have used it to calm down extreme agitation and it really was extreme I was feeling really hopeless and I'm sure it helped. This was just yesterday and today I felt ok just the normal level of panic and anxiety which I can handle.
I've no idea why I felt so extremely agitated this week, it was damn terrible and relentless. I didn't go to the doc because frankly all they are gonna say is you have panic disorder and have had it years so the agitation is psychosomatic. However I wasn't able to relieve it with any breathing techniques.
Anyway I took two or three teaspoons of Taurine though having not researched the average measurement for a dose, I've now found out that one level teaspoon is 2.7 grams. So I must have taken close to 10 grams. I'm sure it got my mood and agitation under control so I was grateful to myself for ordering it hehe :)
As with everything check the dose before hand I was rather rash just taking the dose I did.

I take them both. Whenever I'm anxious I pop taurine. And I take the citrate for of magnesium. Love Phillipa

I'm going into geek mode now. Taurine is not found in proteins. It is unknown in proteins. (I'm almost certain. If it is, it is a rare protein.) It is found in meat, because animals have taurine in their flesh.
Otherwise, excellent advice.

> MaryPhosphate salts should be used sparingly. He's right. Severe messing with electrolytes *can* result. That's why Fleet enemas are damaging to binger/purgers. The phosphate crosses into the blood. If it only happens once in a while, no biggie. But you can't make a habit of it.
You can buy magnesium taurate/taurinate (I've seen it spelled both ways). It is simply a molecule that contains magnesium and taurine.

>No, you weren't rash. With taurine, you can safely titrate by outcome.
I am thrilled to hear of your success with taurine. It really does work, if you get the dose right.
Be aware that your brain could take months to store up some of that taurine that you're flooding it with. Excess (i.e. unabsorbed by neurons) taurine will simply flush out of your system. But the brief exposure will provide supplies for your brain to use later. You can fill a bucket by placing it out on the lawn, and turning on the sprinkler. It's just slower than pouring the water straight in.
