L - Carnitine and possibly 5-HTP might be worth a shot.

I'd recommend asking this same question on the Alternative Board.

you guys!!!

iforgotmy...

is asking for help!!

Dear iforgotmy,
supposedly, hoodia gordonia and tonalin is supposed to be good for inhibiting appetite, and for preserving lean muscle mass. sipping unsweetened green tea all day might help. sometimes we crave something sweet, but we're actually just dehydrated. also, cinnamon is supposed to prevent surges and crashes in blood sugar following ingestion of carbs. so, if you DO eat carbs, make it something with cinnamon, like apple pie, or cinnamon toast, or cinnamon tea, or hot cocoa wiht cinnamon. cinnamon inyour coffee, etc.you need at least half a teaspoon to make a difference.

Best of luck to you-

You probably suffer from insulin resistence (high insulin). This is a result of frequent and high sugar/carbohydrate intake. Insulin resistence leads to poor ability too regulate blood glucose level. The best way to increase insulin sensitiviy is to exclude sugar and grain (bread, rice etc) from your diet, skip snacks and stick to three meals a day. The intermittent fasting between meals improves your livers release of stored glycogen and lowers insulin levels.
If you get hungry between meals I recommend carbonated water with 5mg Zinc, 20-50 mg Ca and 1 gram of fish oil. The minerals can be taken at four separate incidents. You might have to split pills in order to get the right dose. Do not take cinnamon, chromium or lipoc acid between meals since it will lower blood glucose and eventually make you hungry.

Don't forget to excersice. Great way to improve insulin sensitivy.

Carbohydrate addiction is like any other addiction. Unfortunately some people are genetically more prone to this addiction. The problem is caused by our brains reward system, that consists of dopamine and dopamine receptors. People prone to addictions will down regulate dopamine receptors more quickly when exposed to dopamine. This results in the need of a higher dose to get the same reward. The only way to avoid downregulation of dopamine receptors is to avoid frequent snacks and high carb food.
Sweeteners will not help an addiction since it works on the same reward system.

A lot of people seem to be having success with a regimen called the Shangri-la diet. Go to www.sethroberts.net. It's simple, cheap and not really a diet but a safe and novel way of suppressing appetite. Or supposedly suppressing appetite - I can't really vouch for it. You can learn pretty much everything you need to know about for free at his site (use the forums and his blog). He's written a book, but the book isn't necessary. It's easy to try out, really easy. No recipes. No calorie counting. No forbidden foods (though it's highly recommended staying away from fast food). It evidently works for a lot of people. though not for everyone. Good luck.

Hoodia has worked for me - although real hoodia is expensive, and you've got to be careful about not getting ripped off (with fake hoodia). I used desert burn 750mg, and it helped me stick to my 1400 calorie diet for the first 6 weeks (i lost 15 lbs). Now I don't seem to need it so much anymore, which is good, because I don't have $60 extra a month to spend on it...
