This stuff is excelent, Glycine!

Posted by Zyprexa on June 23, 2007, at 14:00:21

Lowers blood sugar, calming, tastes sweet, eliminates worrying, slightly sedating, CNS sepressant, no prescription, its cheep ($8.50/lb). I take 30 grams a day, at 4 different times. Short half life. Its also an AP and a protien supplement. Can't imagine that it has any side-effects. I've been taking this for about 3 months. It does things that the zyprexa does not, like cut worrying.

Zyprexa, is still the best though. Just a nice addition.

Glad you posted this I am about to experiment with Glycine, Arginine, Lysine and Phosphatidyl Serine.

Yesterday I woke up, had bad vertigo, felt agoraphobic, had burning pains in my body, it made me think I was dying or had cancer etc. Went to bed early then woke up today and felt absolutely great all day, even went to the supermarket, not bad for an agoraphobic. I really think there is a strong genetic component to panic and anxiety, and methods such as CBT can only do so much, until the biochemistry is put in 'balance'

The problem is I don't know day to day how I will feel, I might feel horrible for a month now or I might be great for two months or just a day :( I've read Glycine is an abortive of panic attacks in large doses so I always wanted to try it. It's not available in bulk in the UK so I'll be buying from bulknutrition hopefully.

I'm interested in phosphatidyl serine.

Tell us how it goes.

It helps with anxiety too.

Try www.luckyvitamin.com They sell it buy the pound for $8.50 USD. They are low on shiping charges too. This is the best source I have found. They even discount the price depending on how many pounds you buy. NOW brand.

I highly recomend glycine. Lycine is just a more selective part taken from glycine. I don't recomend taking that, if you are already taking glycine.

I find that glycine also helps with mood. Its makes me feel down to earth, while taking meds. Its just real calming.

how soon does Glycine start to work?

I searched the net for articals about glycine after reading your post, and after reading up on it, am thinking of trying it.

It counters the thing that releases the chemical that makes an anxiety attack happen, and has other benefits as well. They give it in ultra large doses to people with skitzophrenic outburst, to help prevent those outburst and other problems from happening.

I'm wondering how long you took it before you noticed any effects. Does it work right away, a few hours after you take it, or do you have to take it for weeks to feel anything?

If you are taking it to abort a panic attack then I've read it takes about 15 mins to be effective. However panic attacks usually stop after that amount of time anyway.

"The suggested dosage during a panic attack is 2 grams of glycine dissolved sublingually (under the tongue), repeated as necessary every few minutes. This method may cause the panic attack to subside within 10 to 15 minutes. Dr. David Williams suggests taking no more than 20 grams during such an attack, as more may cause nausea and stomach ache."

Those are the two 'best' pages I've found on the net regarding Glycine and it's effect on anxiety. At least in lay mans terms. There are other sites which offer more information as long as you can decipher the scientific prose.

Glycine doesn't seem to do anything for me

Tried it and learned a few things. First off, the tiny particals fly out everywhere when you try to pour some out. Secondly, it does not dissolve in water. Getting it down is a problem. You drink the water, and find the white powder still down there. Strange. Guess the particals are smaller than the water molecules. Anyway, ate a bunch of it Monday when I got it in, spacing it out throughout the day, but didn't notice any differance.

Still racing thoughts about someone bullying me or otherwise attacking me, raging through my crazed head all day.

Dissolving it under the tongue... hmm.. have to try that.

And most panic attacks don't last that long, as you have said, so it might not be of any use, if it can't just prevent it to begin with. Keep me focused on things, so I can get some work done, as what I was hoping for.

As long as I don't eat certain foods, I don't have any massive attacks anymore, just the minor distracting and irritating ones.
