I've recently gained some weight and am thinking about trying the Atkin's plan. Any experiences and/or comments are appreciated.

My spouse does extremely well with a diet heavy on proteins and extremely light on carbs. Tons of calories can be consumed, even limited sugars, chocolate, and ice cream, as long as the vast majority of what is ingested has super low carbs. Spouse eats huge portions of protein stuff, very few carbs, and loses weight easily, even though the total calorie intake is very high. Somehow if the calories are from proteins and not carbs, things are fine.
With me it don't matter. I am too skinny. I eat all the carbs I can and it does nothing. I eat too many proteins and I lose weight I can't afford to lose.
Spouse meal examples:
Breakfast:
2-3 eggs scrambled with butter or bacon grease, mixed with bacon, sausage, or ham. Low carb protein bar. No cereals, no breads, no pastries, no pancakes.Lunch: Beanless canned chili mixed with 2-3 hotdogs covered with cheese.
Or taco meat covered with cheese with lettuce and a limited amount of corn chips.Dinner: Meat and salad, but no breads, potatoes, or rice.
Basically...meats, low sugar veggies, and cheeses, all you can eat. Stuff yourself, no worries.
Dessert is almost always a modest bowl of ice cream.
Weight comes off fast, maybe 2-3 pounds a week.

> Wallyyes it's a very good diet. I try to substitute fish for meat and use fish oil caps. I do try to keep my proteins lean (low fat) and use fish fish oil and olive oil for my good fats. But yes it's a good diet for losing weight and keeping your glycemic levels down which is healthy. If you have a snack at night I eat a piece of low fat cheese or a piece of chicken or meat.My carbs are of the whole grain variety.

hi -
yes I've been doing low-carb for about 3 years. Healed up eczema, anxiety, acne and bulimia.
I eat high fat, not high protein which is not good for you (too much ammonia). I also don't believe vegetable oil is good for you. I eat a lot of saturated fat in the form of cream, cheese, lard, tallow. About 75% of my diet is fat. I eat fish, meat, eggs etc. Also a few nuts and some low starch vegetables.
I'll never eat another way. Should be warned though, this diet will not make you ultra skinny - it packs on muscle and burns fat, but body still won't go beyond a certain point.
