Meth treat ADHD?

Posted by superRitchie on October 4, 2003, at 16:10:50

Yea, 2 days ago i tried ice-methamphetamine for the first time, to stay up to study for my exams because my mom refused to give me my ADD medication. Anyways, everyone said you get a "hit" after smoking it, but i didnt, at all. I did a moderate amount, but i didnt get any euphoria, and actually it slowed my thinking down, like my adderall does. I have extreme ADHD, i am always too wired and can never stop doing things! My thoughts when im not on medication are chaos! and i freaking am not in control of my life ever.Anyways, It really calmed me down incredibly, i rermber i sat studying at the table for 2(1/2) hours straight and didnt get up once! usally i would be getting up every 10 min. to go do some random thing(like brush my teeth or wash my hands, stare in the mirror or change shirts, something chaoticly random). Meth makes normal people wired, but for me it made me a zombie, i was soo freaking mad! Well it did effectevly help me study, but i hated it because i was soo zombie-like, never doin' it again! Does anyone know why it did this? Thanks,

Isn't meth a stimulant? Stimulants help with ADHD, stimulants like coffee or ritalin.

Also I didn't read your post all the way before I posted (yes I have ADD heh) but drugs like cocaine etc. have a calming effect on people with ADHD instead of the effect people without ADHD get.

Adderall is amphetamine.

Some time ago, I've read an article about people self-medicating themselves with speed/meth for ADD/ADHD and dysthymia (chronic minor depression characterised by anhedonia, lack of motivation and energy, no pleasure in any activities, but there are no suicical thoughts and no "I'm-feeling-so-bad-I-can't-even-move-my-leg-from-the-couch" after waking up) and medicines like Adderall/Dexedrine could help people with ADD/dysthymia greatly, mainly because they are amphetamines, and amphetamines had been shown to work for ADD/dysthymia.
If you're addicted to meth/or if meth is giving you relief (you've mentioned that meth makes you calm=definite symptom of ADD - definitely try to convince your pdoc (by "convince" I mean take an ADD test) to write you a script for Adderall. Adderall and Dexedrine are both amphetamine medicines. Do a test on ADD, and I think that you might get most ADD symptoms. Take care.

Desoxyn is pharmaceutical grade methampethamine, and yes, it is a potential ADHD medication but many pdocs appear to be reluctant to prescribe it as the demand for illicit meth is greater than it is for Ritalin (or at least that is the perspective of the enforcement community keeping an eye on Schedule II prescriptions). Indeed, the reasons why it may be better than the other amphetamines for ADHD may be exactly why it is perferred on the street: greater psychoactivity relative to peripheral stimulation.

You never know what other compounds will crop up as impurities in the street drug though. Invariably, these "hangers on" will be very, very bad.
