I used to be on Zoloft, but had to stop because of the side effects. I was on 100 mg. It made me throw up each morning, felt nervous beyond explanation, jittery, made me a little manic, made my hands shake, among other awful side effects. I didn't like it. Never made me tired though.

My son is on zoloft and I will repeat what I have read in the other posts (you can do a psycho-babble search and find them). It looks like 50 mg. is too low a dose for most people, they complain it makes them sleepy etc. but doesn't help otherwise. Also most say 100 mg is too much, it made my son too giddy and was a little like being drunk (but happy just don't drive that way). We cut the pills so he gets 75 mg and it works very well. It may take up to 6 weeks before it really fully kicks in. Some complain of sexual side effects but other major side effects are nil except in rare cases. Check out the Zoloft home page. Hope this helps

Hi! I'm on Zoloft, just going on it, starting at 25, now at 50 mg. Makes me jittery, but so do any of the ssi's. I hope there aren't any sexual side effects as I just got off Prozac cold turkey (not my choice!) and had a supposedly unusual hypersexual response. The doctor in the hospital said this has never happened before (?) with Prozac -- be interested in anybody who has had this effect........ I've found Zoloft to work well in the past, but I thought it might have contributed to problems with thinking things through. Still seeing if that's true, may have been Benadryl. Zolft really made me happy and now does too, but giddiness and shaking are bad side effects. I think the taking a deep breath moment for children may work. Ask him to concentrate and take a deep breath in for 5 seconds, let out 5 seconds. May calm him. Good luck!!!

Everyone's different, but for me, Zoloft was the best antidepressant. I got NO side effects. And it cleared me up completely after a couple years.

I'm now at a stage where I'm wanting to brave life without it (and that's going to be a struggle - it has withdrawal effects). But way-back-when, it was the right one for me.

I had the suicidal type of depression ten years ago, and it was determined that the pain couldn't be "talked out" of me. I simply couldn't feel anything except crushing emotional pain. And there was nothing anyone could say to cure that. So antidepressants were needed.

A couple other things were tried, but failed. I also seemed prone to panicky side effects and "the sensation of falling", which was a problem.

But finally, they tried me on zoloft. I found it gentle, relaxing and very "mind clearing". The effects were gradual. At first, I gained weight because I developed a new interest in things that tasted good - like hot fudge sundaes! (Hey, pleasure was a new sensation to me). But then I lost the weight because I developed an interest in yoga and nutrition, and as the depression cleared and cleared, I started to have enough energy and 'spark' to pursue the things I liked, without so much strain and effort.

I guess it made me a little sleepier at bed time - but it also made me more alive in the morning. I was sort of a textbook case for the stuff. Happy to say I've now been depression-free for years.

I only use 100 mg. At first, 50 mg SEEMED to work ...but it didn't clear up the anxiety - just the depressive pain. I thought I was cured after a while on 50, but then my doctor noticed I was worrying over EVERY LITTLE THING all the time and constantly afraid I had messed up, made a mistake, was about to get in big trouble, jerking awake in the middle of the night worrying about some little thing I'd said etc. He said it was "depression finding another route" and increased me to 100 mg. cause he said it was like an infection that seemed gone, but was still trying to grow back! 100 was always enough for me.

But I've heard some people use more. And I've also heard of people who don't like the stuff at all! I think it depends on your symptoms.
