Vesper, it sounds like you need someone to go through the forms with you and help you fill them out. I know what it is like to feel overwhelmed, and when I am, it helps to have someone by my side to help me deal with stuff.
There are probably community agencies that are available that can help you. Start by trying Family Services of America, or their local affiliate. The SS administration might also be able to refer you to a support agency that helps people with this stuff. Or, call the university law school, and ask if there is a student law service, ie, law students who do pro bono work. That is all I can think of right now, but maybe someone else here has other ideas.
