I am taking 25-50 mg when I need it (most nights lately!). My pdoc warned me that many people experience a rapid increase in tolerance when it is used as a sleep aid. So far (1 month) that hasn't happened to me.

However, I find I take it not so much as a "sleeping pill" - it's slow acting, and I don't like the quality or duration of sleep it gives me - as a pre-sleep aid to bring me down to earth when I'm hyper (either agitated or hypomanic).

At the moment, I'm still stuck with klonopin and/or Imovane (Zopiclone, similar to Ambien) to really help get to sleep. The Imovane seems to have mostly pooped out on me after too long at 15 mg (double the normal dose), and I don't want to go to 30 mg (not that my Dr. would likely let me anyway).

BTW, I am on Lamictal 250 mg/day as my primary stabilizer/antidepressant.

Tony
