I think the real issue was that if you were used to how a benzo made you feel, Buspar just didn't cut it. That was my experience when my GP tried it to help me wean off the benzos. Later discovered the mfgr specifically recommended against this.
I later took Buspar (20mg/day) with Serzone and the combo worked really well for me for years -- see my recent post under "What is buspar's affinity for d2".
Strangely enough in the light of mogger's experience, it seemed to _stop_ working when I started on Lamictal. But I never tried that high a dose.
