I'm in the midst of my first ever ect series. After researching it extensively, and weight the pros and cons, i decided that it was worth a shot given the state is was in. I've only have 4 done thus far, and i have no horror stories or bad things to say about it. At very least, I believe (i could be wrong), that it is allowing my brain to accept medications that i previously could not tolerate or had such bad adverse reactions to.

I too was petrified about having them done and what the effects or outcome might be, but I have no complaints. I believe that I will finish out my series of 6 sessions, and then resume medications that seems to be working better or more receptive after the ECT.
