He's perfectly happy to use an anesthetic other than novocaine. It's just the epinephrine would reduce bleeding. The bleeding is due to the fact that he has to poke at my gums to recede them enough to get a full impression. My gums tend to bleed, unfortunately. Although I did have another crown put in a few months ago without epinephrine and didn't bleed too much.
