Effexor vs Pristiq????

Was talking to neighbor who is taking pristiq without any side effects. But when she had taken effexor she was wired and went right off it? I thought they basically were the same meds? Why one and not the other? She's not depressed given for what she thought could become depression after a death in her immediate family. Anxiety. Thanks Phillipa
