Maybe ask the question another way - do you think you connect with your therapist? Does she (or he) "get" you, or do you feel that you have to explain yourself to her?
It's become very important to me to have a therapist with whom I am comfortable with no matter the mood that I'm in, and no matter the subject that's before us. It's not that we haven't had our missteps, but we have been able to work through them.
Before this therapist, whom I've been seeing for over 3 years, I had 3 in a row that I would have to characterize as duds - and not because they weren't good at what they do, perhaps, but because we didn't have a good rapport. (Oh, OK - maybe 2 out of those 3 were actually duds! But one of them was alright, but not alright for me.)
Four months in is maybe a good time to be asking yourself how well your fit is...
That's my contribution, anyways.
