Star, I have had similar experiences and they are indeed very upsetting and unnerving. I have not been diagnosed with DID, but there is a lot of fragmentation in my personality that we are working on to integrate. One time, I was in a hotel room by myself, in bed and getting ready to sleep when I suddenly "became" this 9-year old girl and experienced a particular set of "events" and corresponding emotions. I was very, very upset and scared and called my T as soon as it was daylight. He said it was a dissociative experience. To the best of my knowledge, this was not an actual memory but after that time, I became very aware of the 9-year-old persona within me as well as other parts and personalities - but they were all me and I was not unaware of any of them. I think there is quite a range of dissociative experiences but they are unnerving to say the least, especially if they happen in front of other people... -LL
