yes.

they also don't make carpets like they used to, often.

they used to be high quality wool.

yeah, you would flaten them by walking on them. beating them... well... if it was a rug you would hang it up outside and... beat it. yeah.

like how you give feather duvets and pillows a good shake. fluffs them up.

we used to have wollen carpets and i do remember there was something about vaccuming creating 'lift' or 'loft' in the carpet.

but i'm also thinking about twist-pile carpets. so the woolen fibers are twisted into a loop. natural fibers can break whereas nylon is much more durable... you wanted to be a bit careful with rubbing twist pile carpets because you could hurt the carpet. like... if you neatly plat your hair and then toss and turn on your pillow and you end up with little frizzy bits sticking up and out of the plats.

depending a bit on the quality of the wool.

if you have an old carpet (high quality wool) then beating it might be better for it. i don't know. what kind of carpet is it?
