I've quit three times, for three months each. One technique that does seem to help a bit in the moment-to-moment time is to take a deep breath or two (maybe while praying your prayer). I've heard that a deep breath or two can help get past cravings. I can't remember if it helped me or not.
I haven't quit again right now, just have it on my agenda, and thought it would be good to get input instead of going in 'cold.'
