I'd second that account by PC. I used to mask depression and anxiety, mainly anxiety, with booze every evening for years. I finally became derailed when I was drinking too much. I don't think the alcohol being a CNS depressant gives you depression. I think the depression, anxiety and panic hits you when it clears. Personally I found that a period of happiness like I had hardly known waited for me about 5 days later if I stayed off the booze. I don't think continual drinking would be an improvement on binge drinking BTW
