Is anyone aware of (and have any information to support this) any medications or substances that may often be effective for helping with excessive (/obsessive) perfectionism, other than SSRIs (which have failed to help that much)? i have OCPD and suffer from uncanny perfectionism and associated qualities (though certainly not ever coming close to being any kind of "perfect" or having being self-efficacious by any means). Sorry, this post is probably too tedious to read. Darnit, nevermind.
But yeah, is there any way to help this cursed cognitive state?
i doubt there is any good answer to this question, but i appreciate any attempts. Thanks.

Hi!
Have you ever tried clomipramine(Anafranil)?

Also, if you are taking noradrenergics or stims, they can aggravate the perfectionism-so you might look into lowering those or avoiding them.

This is a great question. I have the same problem. Have not had any success with meds or therapy. I have heard some antipsychotics may be helpful.
Interested in more responses.

> dazedHi,
Yes if SSRis and other serotonergics (Effexor/Anafranil) do not work, I'm afraid the best medications that would provide an immediate and powerful indifference feeling (which would certainly kill perfectionism) are the APs old and new...but they have their own powerful side effects ...(maybe Sulpiride/Amisulpride are the cleanest and least likley to cause AP's famous side effects)Regards,
Adam

Thanks for your responses everyone.
i have not tried Anafranil. i have thought about it, but i hate and am quite sensitive to antihistaminic and anticholinergic side effects. Plus i just figured that an SSRI or Effexor (maybe at a higher dose) would be roughly just as effective, but without those crappy side effects.
Neurontin, huh? i never thought about that. That might be actually be a good idea, although i hear it wears off fairly easily, has a bad withdrawal syndrome, and can make one feel slow and stupid.
Yeah, i guess antipsychotics could be quite helpful. But i don't want to be a slow, lethargic, amotivated idiot either (which Risperdal at a very low dose-- 0.25mg-- made me; have not tried any others though). That's what i hate, i'm more or less convinced that i have to decide between either extreme obsessive-compulsive stressful perfectionism and unmotivated lethargic stupidity. And i already have such a problem with motivation and concentration (on things i'm not interested in).
i guess i'll just have to keep working on the cognitive behavioral therapy without significant pharmacological help (though Nardil has helped some). If you think of any other suggestions, i'd be glad to hear them though. Thanks again.
