As I work my way down the aisle in the health food store, I've marked off Valerin and Melatonin as sleep aids. Valerin caused the worst headache that I've had in years and I had the most vivid dreams with Melatonin ever!! I did not stay asleep for the entire night with either supplement. I too wake up around 2:00 a.m. most nights and would almost give my firstborn for something safe that works!! Let's stay on the search!! The main thing to remember is that we have to try different things because we all respond differently to the supplements and herbs........

Hey fayeroe,

I thought of something...I was at the health food store the other day, and totally forgot about TINCTURES...that's another way to take some of these herbs and such, without dealing with some of their side effects, because you take them sublingually (under the tongue), or put a few drops in a little water and drink it.

I take my B vitamins, eve. primrose oil, and others this way to avoid all the stomach upset from the many supplements I take.

Just thought I'd mention it!

I must tell you about the dream I had the night I took the melantonin........Diane Sawyer was my best friend! I was in the state capitol in Oklahoma City and someone threw something on my shoe from the rotunda thingy and I went straight to Diane's house to tell her about it! It was the freakiest dream I've ever had.....(I have a friend who dreamed she was married to Stevie Ray Vaughn and she was mean to him.)...I never, ever have crazy dreams......mine are all very realistic....so this was very weird...

Do you mean Valerian?
Smells like dirty socks?

Wasn't strong enough to make a difference in getting me to sleep, but once i finally did manage sleep, it kept me feeling 'drugged' all the _next_ day when i wanted to feel awake.

Yes, i was taking Wellbutrin.
This worked for me: Licorice Root Tea by Alvita/Twinlabs. Was amazing, and a blessing. It does something useful for the hp axis. Alert and balanced when i woke up in the morning, too. i learned about it here. There are more potent formulas in capsules in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but require a ND's RX.

Hope it helps,
Escher
