Is this a good plan?
Breakfast: Oatmeal, multi-vitamin, calcium chew
Lunch: 150 g romaine lettuce, 1 can salmon, 4 tbsp light Italian dressing
Dinner: 1 cup beans, 200 g broccoli, 1 calcium chew
Breakdown:
9 g fat, 111 g carbs, 28 g fiber, 48 g proteinFat-Soluble Vitamins
250% RDA vitamin A
400% RDA vitamin D
28% RDA vitamin E
0% RDA vitamin KWhat can I eat to make sure I get enough vitamin E and K? Do I need to worry about them? I know bacteria in our guts make vitamin K, is that sufficient?
Water-Soluble Vitamins
277% RDA vitamin C
375% RDA thiamin
280% RDA riboflavin
260% RDA vitamin B6
417% RDA vitamin B12
217% RDA niacin
265% RDA folateI get enough of my water soluble vitamins, can I get too much?
Trace Minerals
108% RDA iron
0% RDA zinc
0% RDA seleniumDo I need to make sure I get zinc and selenium? What do I eat to make sure I get them?
Major Minerals
136% RDA calcium
26% RDA phosphorus
0% RDA magnesium
2952 mg sodium
0 mg potassiumDo I need magnesium and potassium? What should I eat to get them?
I'm trying to lose weight so I want to meet my requirements with as little food as possible.
I'm getting enough protein and fiber and most of my vitamins. Is this enough? Is my diet healthy enough? Is it sustainable?

I forgot to mention that I also drink 4 mugfuls of green tea a day.
I just found out I can get vitamin E from plant oils. I guess I can drizzle a bit of olive oil on my broccoli.
I also just found out that I do get vitamin K after all, from the broccoli.
Zinc should be OK too since I eat bread in my diet some days.
It seems I also get selenium from the fish I eat everyday.
I don't know if I'm getting enough phosphorus or magnesium.
I also get omega 3 fatty acids from the salmon.
My diet seems pretty healthy right? I can probably go on it for a long time without harm?

Once I got a card from Taco Bell where if I ate ten tacos I'd get a hat, and if I hate forty tacos I'd get a shirt. It seeemed like a no brainer, because they gave you a long time to eat those tacos, and it seemed like I ate tacos often enough anyway.
By the time I bought and gave away the last three tacos, I was so sick of tacos that it was months before I stopped at Taco Bell again for anything. I was begging the counter people to put beans in the taco shell because I couldn't stand one more bite of taco meat.
As an advertising gambit, it may have backfired on them a bit.
Even the yummiest meal can taste pretty awful if that's all you eat. A nutritious well balanced diet of the same food every day could become unbearable.
How about coming up with four or five nutritionally balanced meal days and cycle them? That's what they did at the diet place I went to once.

Good idea about the cycling several plans. I should do that. I just need to come up with some healthy plans now. Hmmm....what should I eat?
I need to figure this out.

You have no fruit. Not enough calcium. If you don't want milk or cheese how about yogurt? How about brown rice with those beans? You need some snacks, too. How about peanut butter on an apple? This isn't enough calories for you.

Like I said, they gave you a long time. Maybe six or eight weeks? I got the shirt and the hat. The hat came automatically at ten, and you didn't have to start over.
Ah, the good old days of youth. :) Believe it or not, I wore a medium in those days.

and getting vitimins from their source, rather than as tablets is ~much~ better and much cheaper too.
you need a *balanced* diet, with fruit, calcium, carbohydrates and protein. This is not a good balanced diet Deneb.
But, I have a feeling you know that dont you?

I wanted people to agree with me. Now I see I've done the wrong thing again. I'm sorry I posted about my diet.

<Spock eyebrow>
If you took everything in fruit away, except for the few vitamin molecules, you very likely could not even see what was left. In other words, there is a lot more in fruit than the few vitamins that we humble humans have labelled as such.

P.S. I really do do the eyebrow thing when perplexed.

Deneb,
Please forgive me for suggesting that fruit would be a healthy addition to your diet. I apologize for upsetting you.

Deneb, don't forget the very important and ephemeral phytonutrients in fruit and vegetables! Those don't come in a bottle.> I don't need fruit, I take a multi-vitamin everyday. I also get enough fiber, about 25 g from the broccoli, oatmeal and beans. I get calcium from my calcium supplements.

Deneb, I'm sorry, I forgot to say that it sounds like overall you are doing quite well with your diet. It's just that I think you are cheating yourself of phytonutrients if you skimp of fresh fruits and vegetables. There are so many of them, I am not even certain if they are all even discovered!
