i just got my ritalin changed to adderall xr.
my new psych also wants to take me off the 1mg xanex ive been taking for a year, and replace that with Effexor...does effexor work well for anxiety as xanex does? also, will i feel weird being on effexor AND adderall at once??im a bit hesitant about all this...i'd like it if anybody could give me some useful advice on the matter.

Myself, I would never recommend Effexor for anxiety! I tried it for anxiety and regret it to this day.

im sure people will get mad and disagree sayin effexor is the best thing in the world for anxiety --but dont listen. It does work somehow for some people-but no...i myself dont recommend it at all.

Just my experience... I experienced the WORST anxiety while on Effexor.
May I ask why the change in Stimulants??
I was recently prescribed Concerta (ritilan), & it puts me to sleep. What type of reaction did you have to it?

i suffered no extra anxiety from effexor. It does provide anxiety relief in a different way, and in fact it has calmed me down. The problem with some people is that the norepinephrine effect at typically over 100mg causes the stimulating effect.
at 37.5 or 75mg you may have anxiety relief, but I think it's short-lived like with most meds {you probably saw some decreased effect over time with xanax too at the same dose}, so increasing the dosage may land you in the stimulating dose range. Effexor works only on serotonin potently at 75mg. However, Effexor is stimulating at any dose for some. For me I sleep a little more and I have to nap even with Provigil in my regimen.
My belief though is that it does and can really work for anxiety.
There could be a concern with adderall and effexor causing serotonin syndrome together. There was a case report in _current psychiatry_

Having tried Xanax...Zoloft...and finally Effexor
My experience was that all 3 helped somewhat with anxiety...but in the order I listed them as to their effectivness.I did note a "paradoxial effect" with Effexor, as it held the anxiety at bay...but I did feels it stimulating effects, which for me...was too close to the anxiety condition I was taking it for.
Zoloft COMPLETELY took care of my anxiety and Agoraphobia...unfortunately it also killed my desire to accomplish and zapped me of my WILL to
really live life to its fullest.So I continue to suggest Xanax, if anxiety is your only real problem

oh, man, look at all these contrasting views on this medication! i don't know what i should do...i suppose i will continue to take the effexor(as i am stil on 1 mg xanax, she hasn't started to wein me off of it yet) and as for the adderal, i'm starting at a low dose of 20mg tomorrow...(20 is very low for me b/c i used to buy 40 mg xr pills all the time).
i was unable to stay with the methylphenidate b/c it gave me like a 20 min boost which was more physical then mental, and i completely crashed after each dose--hence, addererall.and HOLY SHIT that article about serotonin syndrome was really fucking scary...thank you so much for posting that, i WILL be very very ccareful with it and maybe even call my psych??i'm wondering if it's normal in most cases to attain SS thru the use of adderall and effexor....
i do find, however, that whenever i take adderall(usually for papers n studying), i don't get diahrea, but i do shit like a motherfucker!(<~~anyone else get this!?)...it has the tendancy to make me SLIGHTLY borderline naucious, and i havve been reading that effexor's greatest side effect is nausia...so maybe i shouldn't take the adderall till next week when my body gets used to the effexor.
