Works fantastic for me, I am at 90mg a day believe it or not. Helps with my ocd and anxiety. I must add however I took it on it's own once and it had little effect but when it was added to my lamictal, it was and is fantastic.

yes, buspirone worked/works for me.

Although I wish there were an ER formulation available, or that gepirone were approved, since there is reason to think gepirone would be superior.

Those who say that serotonin is the primary factor in mood are borne out by my experience with buspirone. While my depression improved considerably on nortriptyline, mood per se improved selectively on buspirone. (I mean by depression feelings of "fog" and disinterest.)

This might be nothing more than wishful thinking on my part, but I though I read that the drug company was to resubmit an IND for gepirone using additional studies. I wish I could remember where I saw the news article.

Didn't help me at all. Might as well have been swallowing a sugar pill...hell, might of been a sugar pill. :)

Gepirone

What is an "amendment" in terms of filing with the FDA?

Additional data? I'm not sure, but it's good news that they are still submitting a NDA.

Thanks!

few years now of 60 mg/daily buspirone (30 mg bid) with cocktail. tried lowering to 45 mg/daily with negative results.

generic buspirone seems to keep the wellbutrinXL (300mg XL with additional 75 mg buproprion SR) in check along with clonazepam (.5mg bid).

doesn't "feel" like it does anything however over past few years when trying to lower it things haven't been very smooth.

guess it works for this poster.

Boy things must have changed. Buspar used to be given at 5mg and was given to me with xanax when it worked for panic attacks. At the time I was told that if you had taken a benzo buspar wouldn't work. And it didn't at 5mg for me. Love Phillipa

I think the real issue was that if you were used to how a benzo made you feel, Buspar just didn't cut it. That was my experience when my GP tried it to help me wean off the benzos. Later discovered the mfgr specifically recommended against this.

I later took Buspar (20mg/day) with Serzone and the combo worked really well for me for years -- see my recent post under "What is buspar's affinity for d2".

Strangely enough in the light of mogger's experience, it seemed to _stop_ working when I started on Lamictal. But I never tried that high a dose.

I agree with Tyler. For me it was just like taking a sugar pill. The only thing it decreased was the weight of my wallet.

Ditto the sugar-pill. ALL my panic issues were still full bore after 2 weeks on it, granted I was only taking 15mg. But if it works for you, amen brother.

Clonazepam (3mg tid) and Lithium (900mg) are doing the trick quite nicely. In fact I have not felt better in quite a long time. My lithium was just increased yesterday, and the increased dose (trying to get to therapeutic levels) is already showing signs of improvement. Much less anger and no more little trivial things setting me off. All my friends and family have noticed a differnce. Thank the periodic table for element #3!!

P.S. I was so worried about weight gain on the Li, but it's haveing the diabolical opposite effect on me.....just not hungry most of the time and having to force myself to stay up to a 1500 calorie diet...go figure.

I am now just taking myself off buspar. Initially I noticed a really great response to buspar(only 5 mg). I know it's not the norm but within 2 days I was feeling great. I was so happy! But within 2 weeks I noticed it wasn't working so great. I upped the dose, and got to 20 mg, but still nothing, except a mixture of depression, anxiety, and aggitation.

I am very sensitive meds and although the buspar was fine at 10 mg, as I climbed in the dose I started to have side effects. I would get bad headaches, dizziness, And a weird feeling like my brain and heart were thumping at the same time. It freaked me out.

I've had to take 4 5g doses a day and I can't go higher because I can't take more than 5 mg at a time. Also it's very expensive and not covered under our provincial plan.
I really others find help in this med. If only I could have stayed feeling like I did the first 2 weeks I would have stuck with it forever regardless of the expense.

A few comments about buspar. When doctors say it may take a while for buspar to work they are probably right.

A benzo will calm an animal down immediately, but some other agents like buspar or AD's probably exert their antianxiety effect via neurogenesis. Resarchers noticed that 1a agonists calm animals down in about the timeframe that new neurons begin to establish connections.

So you're probably not going to notice an effect after 2 weeks of taking buspar. It might take a few months for the new neurons to make to make lasting connections about stradegies for dealing with stressors.

And no, it won't be the same type of anti-anxiety effect as a benzo, but it may be an arguably better way to approach anxiety disorders.

I would personally like to try a combination of a 1a agonist like buspar, and say a dopamine agonist. Some herbs do this. I think the anthocyannins in blueberries act as serotonin and dopamine agonists. Anthocyanninins are robustly neurotrophic too.

So you're doing well on Lithium so far?? Great!!! I've been thinking about adding lithium to help with my unipolar cycling & anxiety. Does it help for anxiety/irritbility? And so far no weight gain??? WOW!! Hope it continues to work for you!!
