Linkadge, I think your assumtion is correct. Since sleep dysfunction is such a potent factor in depressive disorders... I have long grappled with this same Idea ... If I could just get a "GOOD" deep sleep were talking stage 4 or 5 but not too many hours than I would feel great > the problem is ...It obviously isn't that simple . I remember being hypo-manic so many times yet sleep is really what would be the best remedy for mania..again this obviously not so easy... the very fact that when the mania kicks in and keeps going -ie: sleep deprivation the more out of control so to speak ; your (ours) behaviour becomes . because total lack of sleep will make many psychotic. Like you said to me in one of our previous posts ...I think it has something to do with a severely disregulated HPA axis. In short is sleep good or bad?? it's both !
Also it does seem a bit ironic that AD's do indeed mess with our stages of sleep. Hence the possibilty of their anti-depressant effects and of course there is much more to it than that little theroy(sp) ahhhhhhhh !!! the perfect sleep and EUTHYMIA. does it exist!!!
and to quote the link man!!
THE SEARCH IS THE CURE!!
Take Care
