Hi Bleauberry,
I got this list yesterday from my new PDoc, he is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital and has been prescribing MAOI's for at least 15 years.
Please note that this is based on the newer less restrictive diet, as the older diet was found to have foods with miniscule amounts of Tyramine.ABSOLUTELY RESTRICTED:
Aged Cheeses
Aged and cured meats
Improperly stored or spoiled meats, fish, or poultry
Banana Peel (bummer), Broad bean pods, Marmite
Sauerkraut,Soy Sauce, and other soy condiments
DRAFT beer*Note: Marmite contains high levels of tyramine and has been implicated in numerous hypertensive reactions.
CONSUME IN MODERATION:
Red or white wine (no more that two 4-oz, glasses/day)
Bottled or canned beer, including non-alcoholic (no more than two 12-oz sevings/day)
**Many foods have been unnecessarily restricted because of sporadic case reports or known but irrelevant associations with migraine. Laboratory analysis did not identify high tyramine content in these foods. Previously restricted foods that can be consumed safely include avocados, bananas, bouillon, monosodium glutamate, peanuts, raspberries, and soy milk.
-I'll add to that I think anything you deem to be outdated in any way you may want to stay away from or check further re: that item.-Should you really be concerned about this diet I would suggest maybe following the older diet, the link is supplied by BullDog above, and then add in as you feel comfortable.
-An old poster "Elizabeth" posted "The short list", I believe a list she put together as her version of the new diet that some posters were using.
-Stay away from Soy products unless you know they are O.K. (Soy Milk OK)
Hope that helps!
