Jan,
I did try the massage oil - I think it was mixed with coconut oil - and it was just too much trouble and mess. I had to wear a special cap at night.
I have thinning hair but have never been concerned about it. I think the mixture the ayurvedic doctor prescribed for me had to do with insomnia, anxiety, or just an overheated liver (drinking)
I'm intrigued about Bhringraj after reading about it again. Sounds calming, "promotes sound sleep". Further, it helps rejuvenate bones, teeth, hair, sight, and memory according to "The Yoga of Herbs".
It is similar to gota kola and sometimes substituted for dandelion. I read also that it "reverses balding" and is good for "mental disorders".
It is neutral in that it doesn't increase any of the doshas: pitta, vata, or kapha.
I'm thinking about trying it in tea, capsules, and topical oil. This time, however, I won't do my entire head but just put a few drops on my forehead (6th chakra), wrists, and perhaps my right side.
I've tried that Cayce castor oil pack on my right side after a heavy bout of drinking and I know it helps. Perhaps, I could include Bhringraj oil and skip the drinking this time.
If you start oiling your head, be careful to wash the cap thoroughly before putting in the dryer. A lot of people around here do the oil and cap thing and dryer fires are not uncommon.
