"Anandamide is a type of Neuropeptide present in the human Brain that is chemically similar to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It is also has functions outside the Brain.

Anandamide binds to Anandamide Receptors within the Brain and Thymus (which causes effects similar to those of THC)"

Anandamide Receptors are a type of Neurotransmitter Receptor that exist primarily for the binding of an endogenous substance named Anandamide (which is a derivative of Arachidonic Acid).

Brain Regions that Contain Anandamide Receptors

Brain Region Density
(as a % of the Density found in the Substantia Nigra)
Substantia Nigra: 100%
Internal Globus Pallidus: 85%
External Globus Pallidus: 50%
Cerebellum: 25%
Dentate Gyrus: 40%
Caudate Putamen: 42%
Cingulate Cortex: 35%
Hippocampus: 27%
Amygdala: 25%
Medial Hypothalamus: 20%
Thalamus: 5%
Outside of the Brain, Anandamide Receptors are found in only a few areas of the body - notably the Spleen.
