Both of these drugs are excellent choices. Neither causes mania. I also saw where you asked about alcohol. Some people drink a little while on MAOI's, but you have to be very careful...longer the age of the beer/wine, the higher the tyramine content and of course the danger. Some people swear bottled american beer is fine.
In making a choice between the two meds your diagnosis must definitely be a factor. Some people swear by Nardil (which can cause more weight gain) some swear by Parnate which is more activating but can cause some pretty nasty insomnia. No free lunches with psychiatric meds, as i am sure you already know. Talk to your doc see what he says. Oh yea, don't forget about Emsam...the "Patch". Good Luck!Tyler
