My T mentioned to me today that she thinks my pdoc is using a psychoanalytic technique on me lately, in terms of transference and a rash of horrible flashbacks.
Last night he was a blank slate, and refused to engage in any conversation with me that had to do with our relationship. He usually avoids this kind of talk, except to point out my faulty thinking!, and I asked him last night why he doesn't answer questions that I ask about our relationship, he said, because "I'm listening." Huh?
He says transference is vital to my therapy, but then refuses to discuss it, or acknowledge how invalidating this is to me because it reminds me of my father. Transference, right?
He also practices CBT, and when questioned, he said that he practices a variety of orientations and doesn't want me to think that he's strictly CBT.
I do understand the basics of psychoanalyis, and my T may be wrong, but does any of this make sense?
I will discuss this when I see him next, but any advice would be appreciated.
thanks,
antigua
